Dear Comrades (2020)
Dir: Andrei Konchalovsky
Veteran Russian filmmaker Andrei Konchalovsky returns to cinema screens with this Venice International Film Festival award-winner that focuses on the events leading up to the Novocherkassk massacre of 1962. Following hot on the heels of the HBO miniseries Chernobyl (2019), this is a gripping account of another hellish episode in the Soviet Union’s abdication of responsibility for a population and area that has suffered enough. You can read a 5-star review of the film here, in The Guardian. Also, there is an interview below with the star of the film Julia Vysotskaya.
